National Folk Festival 2000

Played at the National Folk Festival in Canberra over the Easter Weekend.

I was there wearing two hats, firstly as a solo/busking act and secondly as a member of the Gippsland Acoustic Music Club which is based in Morwell, Victoria.

I really put in as a busking act playing 3 hours on the Friday, 8 hours on the Saturday, 7 hours on the Sunday and 3 hours on the Monday. I had the patrons dancing in the queues and singing along.

The atmosphere at The National was very laid back and I had people join in with me as I played. Harmonica players, Didjeridoo players (Thanks Gavin) and even Garry Brown on Acoustic Lap Steel, sure was fun. Garry ended up playing alongside me nearly all day on the Saturday.

The Gippsland Acoustic Music Club performed an hour set at 7:00 on the Friday night and that went over so well that we were offered another spot at 8:00 on the Saturday night.

Congratulations for The Beenies for winning the Chris Wendt award for 'Excellence in young musicians'. The club sure does have a lot of talent.

The picture was taken by Kate Cailas of the Canberra Times and I was most surprised to find myself on page 3. Lots of people came up to me on the Sunday to ask if I'd seen it.
